Lead babbitt from NucleadIn addition to our work on lead products there were a couple of housekeeping actions this week. Getting ready for taxes next week, the corporate dead line coming up and the town of West Bridgewater cut down a very large ash tree at the end of the driveway. They said it was dying.

There was quite a lot of activity on our lead foil line this week. Lead foil is a form of lead sheet that is thin enough that it can be easily cut and formed into any shape and can therefore be placed around any area that needs radiation shielding. Thicknesses of lead foil up to 0.3 inches, and as thin as 0.002 inches are available. Lead foil is shipped rolled on heavy fiber cores to provide protection. Lead foil is often supplied backed with pressure sensitive adhesive or vinyl to aid the application of the product.

Here are some examples of lead foil activity this week:

  • We received a repeat large order of .010″ lead foil from a regular customer
  • Received an order from a regular medical company for lead foil with black vinyl coating applied to one side.
  • We are also working on tooling improvements of our .005″ lead foil line.

Other activity at Nuclead this week included the following:

  • Received order from National Ocean Service, part of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), for one special cast lead brick to provide ballast for research water buoy for tide and current research.
  • Fabricated Genuine lead Babbitt, grade two: that consists of 89% Sn, 7.5% Sb, 3.5% Cu for our lead products inventory, as we just sold out.
  • Received an order for lead ballast. Customer want 2,500lbs to be bagged into 10lb bags.
