What are the Applications for Lead Counterweights?
As the name implies lead counterweights are used to offset the weight of a load.
For example, counterweights are used in elevator systems to offset the weight of the passenger cab, this significantly reduces the work required from the motors. Similarly, in movable bridges, the counterweight offsets the weight of part of the bridge.
In cranes, fork lift trucks and fun-fair rides the counter weight is used to balance the lifted load. Similarly, but on a smaller scale lead weights are used in night vision goggles to balance the forward weight of the goggles with a rear weight.
Lead counterbalance weights can also be used in car racing, both for handicapping purposes but also to counterbalance turning forces particularly when cornering.
Lead diving weights and lead ballast are also forms of lead counterweights where the lead weight is used to counter the buoyancy of the water.
Lead Counterweight shipments
Here are some of Nuclead’s recent shipments of lead counterweights:
- Fabricate several different lead counterweights using Chemical Lead plate:1″ thick for Lockheed Martin Co. Aeronautics division. Theses lead counter weights are extremely tight tolerance and machined using a CNC machining center
- Fabricate lead counter weights to customer blue prints and specifications. Nuclead fabricated a total of 6,280 lbs. of varies sizes and items for an oceanography company conducting Subsea testing in Louisiana.
- Fabricate and ship 23 special sized lead elevator weights to a repeat elevator service customer in Massachusetts. This customer uses the custom weights for elevator certifications and maintenance.
- We fabricated molds, and pour special sized elevator lead counterweights; to certified four high speed elevators in a skyscraper in Boston, MA. Delivery had to be 1 week or less for nearly 10,000# of four different weights and molds. Nuclead and Sharp Mfg. got the job done for the closing with no issues
- Picked and shipped from in stock inventory, a quantity of pig lead, to be used for lead counterweights, and sold to a company in Narragansett, RI
- Nuclead also leased 1,500# of lead ingot to a Medical device manufacturer in Littleton, MA. The lead Ingots were required by Engineers that are developing a new X-ray machine and need lead ingots were preferred, for lead counterweights during prototyping. The lead is simply stacked up as counter weight. The lead ingots will not move, nor be destroyed or modified in any way. The lease terms were for a minimum of 3 months
- Fabricated and shipped special lead counterweights. Sold to a company that specializes in trade shows; this customer required lead to be fabricated to custom specifications and sizes.
- Fabricated and shipped lead racing weights for an automobile racing team in Waltham, MA
- Fabricated and shipped 1″ diameter pure lead wire, machined to customer specifications for lead counter-balance weights. The company is a Turbine manufacture in Houston, TX
- Fabricated and shipped various scuba diving weights for an aquatic team in Clearwater, FL
- Reclaimed lead shot, used for ballast. Sold to a General contractor used for counterweights in an excavator. Company is located in Saint Charles, MO
- Lead bricks sold to a company that fabricates golf clubs. The materials will be melted down at the customer’s facility and used to add balance weights into their products. Shipped to a golf club manufacturer in Gardena, CA
- Nuclead fabricated and shipped per customer blue print specification, Lead Counterweight assembly. This was sent to a security and imaging company in Woburn, MA
- We picked and shipped lead ballast from in our stock inventory and delivered it to an artist, for use as a counterweight, in Brooklyn, NY.
