Lead foil to be used in various applications including munitions manufacture, oil drilling, radiation shielding and gasket manufacture
Cambridge, MA February 24, 2016 – Nuclead a leading manufacturer and distributor of custom and standard lead products for research, industry and consumers announces the delivery of numerous orders for lead foil, delivered to customers throughout the United States and internationally.
Nuclead has a large in-stock inventory of numerous lead products including lead foil. Lead foil can be supplied in lengths of up to 200 feet long with any thickness between .0020” and .0310”. Additionally, the foil can be supplied laminated to backing material, such as vinyl, by the use of pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA).
Lead foil is supplied rolled on heavy duty cores with available end caps for protection during shipping. Nuclead can also stamp, laminate or assemble the lead foil into any application.
Lead Foil Applications
Lead foil is used in many different industries and applications for example:
Medical applications: Lead foil is typically used to provide patient and technician with radiation protection. Vinyl may also be attached to the lead foil to prevent the technician or patient coming in contact with the lead.
Manufacturing: An example application is the use of lead foil to produce corrosive resistant gaskets
Oil and petroleum industry:On drilling platforms, lead foil is used to provide a corrosion resistant sealant to prevent the escape of explosive gases.
Military applications: for example, lead foil is used in the manufacture of some munitions. And for radiation resistant packaging.
Machine shops: Many machine shops who do not have Nuclead’s lead products inventory to draw on order lead foil and other lead products for their own value added activities.
Lead Foil Shipments
Here are some of Nuclead’s recent lead foil shipments:
- Extruded pure lead foil in 1″ wide rolls. Ship to an ordinance and tactical systems OEM in Canada. The foil will be used as de-copper foil in munitions. for NATO governments.
- Extrude and ship .005? thick lead foil tape: Sold to an Oil drilling company in Oklahoma. This material is used as sealant tape in-between drill rods to prevent explosive gases from underground pockets from escaping
- Fabricate and ship pure lead foil, .010? thick. Sold to a customer in Pennsylvania for special radiation shielding packaging for Lockheed Martin Co.
- Fabricate and ship 7,000 lbs. of lead foil tape. Sold to an Oil and Drilling company using this product in the country of Iraq. The foil will be used as pipe thread babbitt to prevent gas leakage on the oil rigs.
- Fabricate and ship .020? lead foil. Sold to a gasket stamping company in Minnesota making gaskets with extremely tight tolerance on thicknesses. Nuclead was able to provide the materials holding +/-.0005? of on inch on the thickness.
- Saw and ship for in stock inventory; .020? thick lead foil sheeting. These sheets will be used as gasket materials and run through the customer punch press production lines.
- Fabricate and ship: .010? Lead foil x 40? long; applied with Pressure sensitive tape to one side and black vinyl laminated to the other. Sold to a medical OEM in Vermont.
- Fabricate and ship .005? lead foil. Sold to an oil drilling company and shipped to their Oklahoma plant.
- Cut .020? lead foil to customer specification for their production punch die operation. Tolerance of +/- .002? for the thickness must be maintained. Shipped to the customer plant in St. Louis, MN.
