As mentioned, lead flashing is more prevalent in older structures, such as churches and brick buildings, while lead flashing will last for a long time – perhaps even centuries – it will eventually require maintenance or replacement. Small holes can be repaired using either bituminous sealer or metal backed lead flashing strips attached with waterproof adhesive.
If the lead flashing needs to be replaced then particular care must be taken on corners – both external and internal – to ensure that a watertight seal is created.
