Nuclead ships cut to size lead glass and lead acrylic windows from stock

Cambridge, MA June 10, 2014 – Nuclead a leader in the manufacture and distribution of custom and standard lead products for all applications, announces the recent delivery of several lead glass and lead acrylic orders to customers throughout the United States and Canada, the deliveries were made from Nuclead stock and cut to size per customer specifications.

Lead glass is manufactured by the addition of lead oxide into the glass melt, during manufacture. Nuclead carries lead glass and lead acrylic in stock that can be cut to size per customer specification.

In certain radiation shielding applications, it is important that the equipment technician be able to observe the work area to ensure that the process is being performed correctly. Lead Glass can be used in any facility which requires protection from x-ray radiation. Leaded glass and X-Ray glass is typically mounted into a lead lined frame built into a door or a wall. High lead content gives optimum shielding against radiation from equipment in the 100 to 300kV range.

Typical applications that require lead glass or lead acrylic window include:

Medical field – typically windows into x-ray rooms, in dentist offices and screens for medical diagnostics
Veterinary medicine – usually similar applications such as x-ray room where the lead glass or lead acrylic provided protection for the x-ray technician.
Nuclear industry – Protection windows in laboratories, radioactive storage stations, nuclear fuel development plants and reprocessing plants
In some other industries – where electron beam systems and plasma generators are in use, safety googles with lead glass or lead acrylic lenses are required.
Airport security X-Ray glass – provides protection from airport luggage inspection equipment.

Nuclead has been providing stock and custom lead glass and lead acrylic for many years, here are some examples of recent deliveries.
